Columbia Pictures Takes Teddy Wayne’s ‘The Winner’, Amy Pascal Producing

EXCLUSIVE: In a competitive situation, Colombia Pictures has acquired the rights to Teddy Wayne’s upcoming dark thriller, The Winner which Amy Pascal will produce through her Pascal Pictures with Rachel O’Connor.

Wayne is adapting his own tome for the big screen. The novel hits shelves on May 28 from Harper Collins.

The Winner follows law school graduate Conor, who takes a job as a tennis pro in a gated community near Cape Cod, only to find himself torn between an arrangement with a sharp tongue divorcée and falling in love with her outspoken daughter. He manages to find a way through this tangled web until he makes one irreversible mistake.

Wayne is the author of the novels The Great Man Theory, Apartment, Loner, The Love Song of Jonny Valentine and Kapitoil. He is the winner of a Whiting Writers’ Award and an NEA Creative Writing Fellowship as well as a finalist for the Young Lions Fiction Award, PEN/Bingham Prize, and Dayton Literary Peace Prize. A former columnist for the New York Times and McSweeney’s and a frequent contributor to The New Yorker, he has taught at Columbia University and Washington University in St. Louis. He has developed films and series from his novels with HBO, MGM Television, and others.
