A day after the viral picture made it’s round on social media, many royal fans are wondering where Kate Middleton is now amid the edited photo and all the conspiracy theories. Sources close to The Princess of Wales revealed her true feelings about the situation.
The Princess of Wales posted a picture with her children, which raised eyebrows for some Royal family fans online. The photo marks Kate Middleton‘s first photo since her abdominal surgery in January 2024. It features Kate in the middle while hugging and embracing her three kids, Prince George, Prince Louis, and Princess Charlotte. “Thank you for your kind wishes and continued support over the last two months,” Kate Middleton wrote in the caption. “Wishing everyone a Happy Mother’s Day. C”
Many eagle-eyed fans saw the edits on the photo such as Prince Louis’ fingers and around Princess Charlotte’s dress. Kate Middleton issued an apology on social media for the mistakes. “Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing. I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused. I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother’s Day. C,” she wrote on X.
One source told The Telegraph that Kate was compelled to comment on the situation as she “would likely be upset by the furore caused by what was supposed to be an innocent family photograph”.
Another source told The Mirror UK that the Princess felt “awful” about the backlash when editing the family portrait and just wanted to make it the “best it could be.” However, she decided to be transparent about it since honesty is the “best policy.”
Newspapers like The Associated Press had recalled the picture due to the inconsistencies. AP said that “the source had manipulated the image in a way that did not meet AP’s photo standards. For instance, it contained an inconsistency in the alignment of Princess Charlotte’s left hand with the sleeve of her sweater.”
A source close to the Royal family assures that it was all a mistake and that the family had a great Mother’s Day together. The source told People that Kate wanted “minor adjustments” to the “amateur, family photograph taken by the Prince of Wales.”
Kate and William’s motivation was “to offer an informal picture of the family together for Mother’s Day,” the source adds. “The family spent Mother’s Day together and had a wonderful day.”
Kensington Palace announced that Kate Middleton had a “planned abdominal surgery” at The London Clinic on January 16, 2024. “The surgery was successful, and it is expected that she will remain in hospital for ten to fourteen days, before returning home to continue her recovery,” the statement said. “Based on the current medical advice, she is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter.”
“The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate. She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible; and her wish that her personal medical information remains private,” the statement continued. “Kensington Palace will, therefore, only provide updates on Her Royal Highness’ progress when there is significant new information to share.”
“The Princess of Wales wishes to apologise to all those concerned for the fact that she has to postpone her upcoming engagements. She looks forward to reinstating as many as possible, as soon as possible,” they added.
