After the surprising announcement on the red carpet, many fans might be wondering if Austin Butler and Vanessa Hudgens had pregnancy plans. Hudgens revealed that she and her husband Cole Tucker are expecting their first child together. The Disney Channel alum shared the surprising news by debuting her baby bump on the Oscars red carpet in March 2024, where she wore a form-fitting black gown
She opened up about her relationship timeline. “I want to get married, travel, then have kids—probably in my late 30s,” she told Women’s Health. She iterated that she and her boyfriend at the time were happily taking their time. “Everyone’s clock is different,” she says.
The actress had previously opened up about her desire to be mother one day, telling Nylon in September 2022, “I always thought I would be married at 25, because that’s when my mom got married, and then when that didn’t happen, I was like, ‘Oh, OK, So we’re just going to shift everything back a bit.’” She continued, “I always thought that around 36, 37 is when I would want to have kids, and that still plays. I don’t feel panicked about it.” Looks like her new timeline was right on schedule!
Vanessa Hudgens and Austin Butler dated for almost nine years from 2011 to 2020. They were first linked in September 2011 after they were photographed together at the birthday part of their mutual friend Ashley Tisdale’s sister, Jennifer. (Butler and Tisdale starred in Disney Channel’s Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure, while Hudgens and Tisdale starred in the High School Musical movies.) Butler and Hudgens confirmed their relationship in February 2012 after they walked the red carpet together at Hudgens’ movie, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island.
Butler and Hudgens broke up in January 2020 after more than eight years together. “They really loved each other and have been through some of their toughest life moments together,” a source told People at the time. “Busy work schedules and travel definitely put a strain on the relationship. They were a wonderful couple and it’s really sad that it didn’t work out.” Another source added to People, “The breakup isn’t easy, but she’s not one to sit around and mope. She’s living it up and having fun. She seems really happy and excited about life, honestly.”
However, things are going very strong with her new man. Hudgens tied the knot with her husband, Cole Tucker, in Tulum, Mexico. Her hubby proposed to her with an emerald-cut ring the year before, with Hudgens telling People that she wasn’t expecting her proposal to happen the way it did. “I was extremely surprised,” she told the magazine in March 2023. “We had definitely talked about it, but I did not expect it to happen the way that it happened and the moment that it happened. It definitely caught me off guard and I was bawling my eyes out.”
The couple were first linked back in November 2020, when they were spotted out on a dinner date in Los Angeles at the Canyon Country Store. At the time, the pair kept a low profile about their relationship—but it wasn’t long before they went public with their romance. On Valentine’s Day 2021, Hudgens and Tucker decided to make their relationship Instagram official. They went on to make their red carpet debut in November 2021 at the Tick, Tick … Boom! premiere.
