Just when you thought the Oscars red carpet gave you all it could give, in come the Oscars afterparty looks – and they mean business this year.
Case in point: big nominees of the night Margot Robbie and Emily Blunt made sure their outfits reflected a major gear change for the post-ceremony celebrations, with Emily opting for a form-fitting drop-waist Dolce & Gabbana gown – and Margot re-emerging in an archival Mugler corset from the 1996 collection. Basically, she dressed as an actual Oscar statue.
But the Vanity Fair Oscars afterparty isn’t only good for sussing out the big outfit changes from the stars already spotted at the ceremony – there’s also countless new looks to dissect, since the stars come out in their droves for film’s biggest night out.
Most notably, Sydney Sweeney made a serious case for red carpet recycling by wearing the Marc Bouwer dress that Angelina Jolie made famous at the 2004 Oscars. You know, the plunging cream silk number that’s widely considered one of the most iconic Oscars dresses of all time? That one.
Plus, Jennifer Lawrence went full Regency-core in 1996 Givenchy couture (previously modelled on the runway by Kate Moss), Pamela Anderson continued her makeup-free run in an ethereal Oscar De La Renta number and Danai Gurira took our breath away in a delectable coral Zuhair Murad ballgown. And don’t even get us started on Lupita Nyong’o in Armani Privé… perfection.
