Woman Feels Cute at Hostel Until She Catches Herself on Camera

A woman staying at a hostel during her travels abroad thought she would treat herself to some self-care but quickly realized how frightening she looked while walking around.

Katie Stafford, 26, is traveling in Southeast Asia and shared a TikTok video of the unfortunate moment in the hostel when she realized what her face mask looked like after it was applied.

“I could feel it stinging so opened my front camera and saw that,” she told Newsweek.

The video, which has been viewed over 5.8 million times since it was shared on October 7, shows Stafford in a foamy face mask, one she didn’t realize would look that way. In the short clip, the traveler is seen in fits of laughter after she realizes how she looks, flipping the camera onto herself after showing her friend’s surprised reaction.

She shared the video with a text overlay that says: “I’ve just been walking round my hostel thinking I was looking all cutesy doing skin care and not realizing it was a foaming face mask and I look like Miss Piggy.”

“Gave myself a fright when I first opened the camera,” she said in the caption.

Stafford may have compared herself to Miss Piggy from the Muppets in the video, but other people had different thoughts. “Standout comments were comparisons to Freddy Kruger,” she told Newsweek.

Traveling in Southeast Asia is an experience that an increasing number of young people are opting for. Popular destinations in the region include Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and Indonesia.

Backpacking is another increasing travel trend, and in 2021 over 10 million people went on backpacking trips in the U.S., compared with 7 million 10 years before, according to Statista.

Stafford’s video received thousands of comments, with many people finding the humor in the situation. One person, Courtney, joked: “The cake scene in Mrs Doubtfire.”

WhitneyZane said: “Y’all remember Gary Oldman’s character in Hannibal?”

A user with the name Miss K commented: “There’ll be not enough floor for me to run if I saw this in the hostel.”

“Nothing could’ve prepared me for that camera flip,” said Angel, while @mai_bee24 said: “I’ve never laughed harder than when I used this mask.”

Lucky Day wrote: “The little foam bubbles spraying onto his bed after he goes “Oh” is taking me OUTTT.”

Brittany Thain said: “The camera flipped and i was not prepared for your silent foam filled face laughing.”
