In a year when inflation continues to squeeze household budgets, Walmart’s decision to lower the price of its Thanksgiving basket is a welcome relief for many families.

Latriece Watkins, Executive Vice President and Chief Merchandising Officer at Walmart US, emphasized the retailer’s focus on affordability, per a press release.

“We know many of our customers are beginning to prepare for their holiday celebrations early, and we’ve adapted our approach to best meet their needs.

“We’ve worked hard to lower prices across our most exciting assortment ever, and we’re thrilled to give customers more of what they want this holiday – more time to prepare and more opportunities to save all season long,” she said.

BASKET BASICS

The basket includes 28 customer-favorite items essential to a traditional Thanksgiving meal, such as turkey priced under $1 per pound, stuffing, mashed potatoes, green beans, cranberries, and classic holiday desserts, according to the release.

It will all be available starting October 14 and runs through December 25, giving shoppers ample time to plan their holiday festivities.

Customers can purchase the meal both in-store and online, with the added convenience of Walmart’s delivery and pickup services.

BUY ONE, GIVE ONE

This year, Walmart is introducing a new one-click “buy one, give one” donation option, allowing customers to easily share their holiday spirit with those in need.

When purchasing the Thanksgiving meal package online, customers can opt to donate the same meal to a family in need through a partnership with The Salvation Army.

In addition to the meal donation option, customers can also donate to the Red Kettles outside Walmart stores or participate in the Angel Tree program to buy gifts for children in need.

Walmart’s ongoing partnership with The Salvation Army raised more than $34 million last year, and the retailer hopes to build on that generosity this year.

DIGGING DELIVERY

Walmart is also expanding its delivery services to reach an additional 12 million households, giving more customers access to its affordable holiday offerings.

With early morning delivery starting at 6 am and express delivery in as little as 30 minutes, Walmart is making sure that even last-minute shoppers can receive their orders on time for the holidays.
