A WALMART shopper has admitted they left their cart and walked out of the store after finding it did not take Apple Pay.

The customer said they were “all loaded up” and ready to go – until learning the retailer “doesn’t accept” the popular tap-to-pay method.

“First time not buying a thing at Walmart!” the customer wrote on Facebook.

“Got cart all loaded Up! No wallet! But I have Apple Pay! They don’t accept it! WTHECK!

“I just left the cart! Oh Well!!”

Others were quick to comment, with one person writing, “Isn’t it ridiculous!

“Walmart should be able to take all forms of payment period.”

“Been there before,” another said.

But one person advised, “If your card is attached to your Walmart app you can use that.”

Over 90% of retailers in the US are understood to accept Apple Pay, according to data collected by Capital One Shopping.

Walmart, however, uses its own ‘Walmart Pay’ system instead.

The tap-to-pay method, which is attached to the Walmart App, is similar to Apple’s, allowing customers to store debit, credit, and gift cards to pay when they checkout.

It can, however, only be used to make Walmart purchases in-store – not online.

While some love it, others see it as a source of frustration – particularly when they only have Apple Pay on them.

“Walmart why tf (sic) y’all don’t accept tap?” one shopper recently wrote online.

“I had a full shopping cart, but had to leave it because y’all don’t accept Apple Pay.

“Y’all a multi-billion dollar company, do better and upgrade.”

Another said earlier this month, “Left my groceries behind at Walmart today.

“They wouldn’t accept my form of payment (Apple Pay).

“Oh well, @Walmart @WalmartWorld, your loss! Very foolish to exclude this form of payment, I believe.”

When asked about Apple Pay recently, Walmart CEO Doug McMillon recently noted the retailer “would like to have the customers open our app in the store all the time”.

The U.S. Sun has reached out to Walmart for comment.

Why doesn’t Walmart offer Apple Pay?

CEO of Walmart Doug McMillon has revealed why stores don’t offer Apple Pay on Stratechery with Ben Thompson.

Though using Apple Pay at the retailer has been an ongoing conversation, McMillon emphasized that “We would like to have the customers open our app in the store all the time.”

The app can be used to help find items in the store, but it can also be used to pay for your purchases.

“That’s one of the things that we would like people to use our app for,” he said.
