To be used for Walmart’s InHome service – which delivers groceries from stores to customer homes – General Motors say the vans will be run in Austin, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, northwest Arkansas, Orlando, and the San Francisco Bay Area.

The move comes as GM and Walmart received positive feedback following a trial program by drivers – with particular praise focussed on the van’s specialfeatures, including its automatic-closing doors and ease of ingress and egress.

The 400 units will be Chevy’s shorter-wheelbase option BrightDrop, which uses the same component set as GM’s current generation of EVs and can run for 159 miles on a single charge with the standard battery pack, according to GM.

What’s more, the US car giant claims the model’s larger optional pack can boost it up to 272 miles of range.

BrightDrop was initially unveiled as a standalone venutre by GM in January 2021, but it later merged with Chevrolet in August of this year.

Production is still assigned to GM’s CAMI Assembly plant in Ontario, Canada, which has been building BrightDrop vans since late 2021.

Earlier customers included FedEx and the Ryder rental fleet.

GM plans to have an all-electric lineup of vehicles by 2035.

The car brand recently announced the recall of a popular family car over fears it could explode without warning.

The auto giant has already had to call in over 140,000 of the same model nationwide due to a similar issue.

GM issues the recall through its subsidiary Chevrolet, in partnership with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Elsewhere, Ford Motors has announced it will temporarily stop production of its electric F-150 Lightning pickup truck.

The American automaker announced it will halt assembling the iconic model from November 18 to January 6.
