Fans are praising Valerie Bertinelli for her vulnerability after the actress shared a video of her trembling hand following an anxiety attack.
“I’ve sat on this post for a day because it’s incredibly vulnerable and that’s always scary to share,” she captioned the clip on Sunday, November 17. “But I’m posting because we’re all out here doing our best having a human experience and none of us want to feel like we’re alone in that.”
Valerie, 64, shared that her heart was “beating a little rapidly” while she typed her caption on her post.
“I had a really bad anxiety attack today,” the One Day at a Time actress explained. “I haven’t had one like this in a very, very long time. A few hours ago, I was weeping uncontrollably, and my heart felt like it was pounding out of my chest. I couldn’t stop shaking.”
“I know I’m taking a chance, but, I want to share it because I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one out here who has experienced this,” she added. “Gratefully these attacks have become much more infrequent, so this one took me a little bit by surprise today.”
Valerie said that her hand shaking was the “after effect” and that during the attack, her body and mind “feels like it’s actually under attack.”
“I almost disassociate and am focused solely on calming down and finding any road to a more relaxed and peaceful body,” she wrote. “Because I know it’s just my brain overthinking and catastrophizing but my body goes into overdrive and I have no control over it.”
“Hours later, as I’m doing my best to meditate and EMDR my way out of this, this is the after effect that I can’t quite seem to calm all the way yet,” Valerie shared. “Part of me is fascinated by what the human body is capable of when our feelings can get in the way or override any reasonable thought and another part of me is just curious on how all of this happens, you know the weird neuropathies in our brain and how it affects our bodies, what feelings (which are just information btw) are and why are they so powerful that they make our body go into overdrive.”
She asked her followers if they have ever experienced “an extreme anxiety attack” and any helpful tips they have for calming down. The comments section flooded with support and helpful tips from her followers.
The following day, Valerie revealed that she was on the move.
“I’m on the plane, all tucked in. Heading to New York for THREE more episodes of @thedrewbarrymoreshow,” she captioned an Instagram post on Monday, November 18. “I couldn’t love this job more! Is there anything you would like to have Drew and I talk about and dig into? I’m curious. What’s on your mind? What would you like more information on?”
It was previously announced in September that the Hot in Cleveland alum would be joining The Drew Barrymore Show as a lifestyle expert.
“I’m going to be a part of The Drew Barrymore Show. I’m going to be part of Drew Crew, and I’m super excited about that,” she told People at the time.
“I absolutely adore her,” Valerie added. “And all the people that work there are so flippin’ cool.”
The new career venture came after Valerie departed Food Network after hosting Kids Baking Championship and more.
“I’ll be going to New York a lot to hang out with Drew and see where that takes me,” she continued.
