A toddler has captivated the internet with his perfect re-enactment of an iconic High School Musical dance routine.
Mom Jennifer Harvey (@jharveyj), 34, shared her son Lucas’s rendition of “Bet On It” in a viral TikTok video that garnered 43,800 likes and 438,700 views.
“I grew up watching the High School Musical movies, and I played the songs from those movies on YouTube from time to time.
“He’s seen and heard all those videos. He then started requesting for me to put them on over and over.”
“His routine is perfect!” Harvey, from Gander, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, told Newsweek.
In the video, Lucas, who was 2 years old at the time, performs a spot-on copy of Troy Bolton’s famous routine.
“Bet On It” is one of the film’s most iconic musical numbers, featuring Troy, played by Zac Efron, dramatically grappling with self-doubt and determination while running, leaping, and emoting across a golf course. The scene is often celebrated for its intensity and over-the-top choreography.
Harvey explained that her son didn’t spend hours practicing the routine. “I never noticed how long it actually took him to perfect the routine, but he took a particular liking to this specific one and kept asking for it to be played on the TV,” she said.
“Before we knew it, he was dancing the whole thing! He learned it completely on his own and on his own time.”
Harvey described Lucas, now 3, as a child who has loved music and dance since he started walking.
“My husband and I noticed when he first started dancing to music that his timing was perfect. His moves were always on beat with the music. He loves to sing along with songs, as well. His absolute favorite thing to do is put on performances for people! He loves the applause and the attention he gets from it.”
She also shared a memorable moment that showcased Lucas’s love for performing: “His older sister had her grade three choir performance the other night at our town hall.
“It was outside, and there was no stage, just all set up right on the grass. We were standing there—my husband was preoccupied with our youngest daughter, and I was taking a video—but my husband then nudges me and says, ‘Look at Lucas!’
“Lucas had walked over and inserted himself into the choir formation, singing along to ‘Jingle Bells’ and doing all the moves the other children were. The crowd cheered, and he just ate it up! I never laughed so hard in my life—definitely a forever memory!”
Social media users were blown away by Lucas’s talent.
“Omg the fact that he knows it so good he does the moves before Troy sometimes!” said one viewer.
“My jaw fell on the floor when he did the snap movement! This boy is observant and talented,” commented another.
“Impeccable timing! He’s a natural,” added another fan.
