PRINCESS Kate has a new “modern way” of staying relevant and connecting with fans, according to a royal expert.
The Princess of Wales, 42, took a step back from royal duties this year as she underwent preventative chemotherapy, but made an effort to support her charitable causes.
Recently, Kate shared a message in connection with Baby Loss Awareness Week.
In a post on X, previously Twitter, she wrote: “Baby Loss Awareness Week is such an important moment to support those who have experienced the devastation of baby loss. Sending love, strength and hope to anyone affected.”
She signed the personal note off with a “C” for a personal touch.
Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond said Kate writing her own social media posts is a fairly new approach to communication and is a great step for the monarchy.
She told OK!: “This is such an effective and modern way of using her influence and staying in touch, even when she is not making personal appearances.
“Official statements from the Palace now seem quite stuffy and extremely formal by comparison.
“Social media can be a source of awful abuse, but Catherine and William are showing that it can be used to spread goodwill and kindness.”
It makes sense for the royals to be embracing the power of social media, as according to Ofcom research, two-thirds of adults in the UK cite social media platforms as the source of news they consume.
Meanwhile, 83 per cent of those aged 18-24 say they educate themselves with news from social media.
Prince William also likes to send personal messages via his and Kate’s Instagram page, which has 16.8million followers, signed off by “W.”
Following the England team narrowly missing out on the title this summer, William wrote: “Thank you for creating a team that stands shoulder to shoulder with the world’s finest in 2024.
“Thank you for showing humility, compassion, and true leadership under the most intense pressure and scrutiny.
“And thank you for being an all-round class act. You should be incredibly proud of what you’ve achieved. W.”
Sussexes using Instagram
Prince Harry has claimed his and Meghan’s social media page was the “only platform available to us” when they were in the royal family and wanting to redefine their roles.
In his Spare memoir, Prince Harry wrote about how they shared the news they were stepping back as senior royals on Instagram.
He wrote: “We sent the statement to our social media person.
“Within a minute there it was, live, on our Instagram page, the only platform available to us.
“We all hugged, wiped our eyes, and quickly gathered our things.
“Meg and I walked out of the Palace and jumped into our car.
“As we sped towards Frogmore the news was already on the radio.”
Currently the Sussexes don’t have an official Instagram posting their news, but they do share information on their Sussex.com website.
Meghan has teased the launch of her upcoming lifestyle brand American Riviera Orchard by starting an Instagram page, but currently is yet to post any updates.

Those who received a package included Chrissy Teigen, Heather Dorak, Tracy Robbins and Kris Jenner.
She later unveiled two new products from her American Riviera Orchard brand just hours before Trooping the Colour.
Polo player and close friend of Prince Harry, Nacho Figueras was treated to a jar of raspberry jam from the collection as well as a jar of luxury dog biscuits for his pooch.
