September-slash-October is unofficially the start of the year for fashion (although September being fashion month is a total write-off), which means once October rolls around, designer collabs come in fast and hot. There seems like there’s one dropping every week, some between usual suspects who have so much synergy it’s almost surprising one doesn’t already exist (Exhibit A: Diesel x Savage x Fenty) and some are quite surprising (Jimmy Choo x Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon, anyone?)
Fashion collabs are often a way for brands to tap into new demographics or expand existing ones. Sometimes a high street brand might partner with a designer to elevate their offering whilst giving the designer a wider reach (we’re ready to pounce on the Reformation x Clare Waight Keller jewellery collection that just dropped), other times brands collaborate because they share an aesthetic universe. When Harry Styles’ brand Pleasing announced a limited drop with Disney’s Fantasia, for example, we couldn’t help but feel it just made sense.
