This year, the DNC was held at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois from August 19th through the 22nd.

While there, each state got to choose their nominee to run for President of the United States, which is Kamala Harris and her VP pick Tim Walz, the Governor of Minnesota.

The Chicks opened up the show by performing the National Anthem, which many viewers at home were not fans of.

During their performance, the country music trio was seemingly out of tune.

‘HORRID!’

After hearing The Chicks’ version, fans flooded X to comment.

One person wrote, “Dixie chicks ain’t been the same now that they are just The Chicks.

“They just mmmmmmurdered the Anthem dead. It was horrid.”

Another said, “Did anyone else just have to mute The Chicks singing the anthem? I think one of them had an earpiece issue…woof.”

“The Chicks did something tonight, but being on key was not it lol,” a third admitted.

A fourth mentioned, “The Chicks got some hits but all imma say is, not everyone should be asked to sing the star spangled banner.”

A sixth stood by the musical artists, “I will ALWAYS love The Chicks. I don’t care if they were off-key.”

Democratic National Convention roundup

Delegates from across the nation decended into Chicago’s United Center to formally celebrate Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democrats presidential nominee.

DNC Night 1 highlights:

  • Delegates showed an outpouring of gratitude for President Joe Biden, the Democratic incumbent who decided to end his reelection campaign on July 21, 2024, and pass the torch to his vice president to lead the nation.
  • An emotional Biden, who wiped away tears as a raucous crowd chanted, “Thank you, Biden, delivered an emphatic speech that diverted past the scheduled primetime hour.
  • Supporters praised the president for his 50-year career in public service that began in Delaware.
  • “For 50 years, like many of you, I’ve given my heart and soul to our nation, and I’ve been blessed, a million times in return, with the support of the American people,” Biden said.
  • Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton received a standing ovation as she called Kamala Harris and Tim Walz’s campaign “the future.”

DNC Night 2 highlights:

  • Kamala Harris secured the Democratic nomination in a chaotic and gaffe-filled roll call during night 2 of the convention.
  • Former White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham spoke at the DNC and said behind closed doors, Donald Trump would refer to his supporters as “basement dwellers.”
  • Grisham was one of five Republicans to speak at the convention.
  • The Obamas electrified the Chicago crowd, delivering keynote speeches one after the other.
  • Former First Lady Michelle Obama gave a rousing speech blasting Trump as a racist and misogynist.
  • Barack Obama, one of the most influential figures in the Democratic Party since leaving the Oval Office in 2017, called his successor a “whining and childish” billionaire.

DNC Night 3 highlights:

  • Former President Bill Clinton delivered an enthusiastic speech to delegates, but his low-tone voice and thinning gray hair left supporters worried.
  • Vice President nominee Tim Walz was cheered by his former high school football team he previously coached as he headlined Night 3 of the DNC.
  • Walz, or “Coach” Walz as referred to by presidential candidate Kamala Harris, packed his 16-minute speech with football references, admitting to Democrats that they’re behind in the race.
  • “It’s the fourth quarter. We’re down a field goal,” Walz said.
  • “But we’re on offense, and we’ve got the ball. We’re driving down the field. And boy, do we have the right team.
  • “We’re going to leave it on the field. That’s how we’ll keep moving forward.”
  • Meanwhile, on the Republican side, Donald Trump held his first outdoor rally since he survived an attempted assassination while on the campaign trail in Pennsylvania on July 13.
  • Trump delivered remarks to supporters in North Carolina behind a fortified bulletproof podium.

READY TO RUN

While The Chicks’ performance was somewhat of a letdown according to viewers, there were plenty of featured speakers and entertainers during the fourth and final night of the convention.

From celebrities like Eva Longoria, Kerry Washington, Tony Goldwyn, and D.L. Hughley, to influencers and activists, the night was a star-studded affair.

Pink was another notable performance of the night, singing What About Us with her daughter, Willow Sage, later in the night.

The night continued to be a family affair, with Kamala Harris’ sister, Maya, niece, Meena, and stepdaughter, Ella Emhoff, taking the stage.

Meanwhile, Chicago’s very own DJ Metro provided the entertainment throughout the evening, with some viewers applauding him for turning the DNC into a “dance party,” while others slammed him for being off-beat.

Prominent political figures like Senator Elizabeth Warren and former US Representative Gabrielle Giffords gave speeches that riled up the crowd.

Roy Cooper, the Governor of California, was the final figure to take the stage, introducing Harris – who formally accepted the Democratic Party’s nomination for her historic presidential bid.

OH BEY-HAVE!

As the DNC came to a close, fans were almost certain that Beyonce would also appear and perform at the political event as she was reportedly in Chicago.

In an earlier report from TMZ, the news outlet claimed that the United Center had heightened its security to be prepared for the huge performance.

There were also separate rumors that Taylor Swift would also appear.

The Blank Space hitmaker just finished the European leg of her Eras Tour.

One fan wrote on X, “Truthfully, I want the DNC surprise to be Beyoncé AND Taylor. If there was ever a time to unite the country, unite the stans, and save democracy, this is it.”
