In this series, Newsweek is recapping every show Taylor Swift has performed on the Eras Tour, city by city.
Taylor Swift was blown away as thousands of fans without tickets gathered outside of a stadium in Munich to hear her play.
The “I Knew You Were Trouble” singer played to around 74,000 Swifties inside the Olympic Stadium in Munich on July 28, 2024, but according to reports, a further 50,000 people flocked to a hill outside while she was on stage.
Tickets to both of Swift’s Eras Tour shows in the city sold out but determined fans didn’t let that get in their way and headed to Olympic Hill, one of the highest points in Munich, in a bid to catch a glimpse of the superstar. Clips and photos doing the rounds on social media showed the hill completely covered with people as Swift served up her hits inside the arena.
The huge gathering didn’t go unnoticed and as the star addressed the crowd inside, she gave a shout-out to those outside and thanked them for showing up.
“We are lucky enough to get to play this show for 74,000 beautiful people in this stadium, and if the reports are correct, about 50,000 beautiful people outside the stadium!” exclaimed the star.
She went on: “Thank you for coming to the Eras Tour, whether you’re in the stadium or outside of the stadium. We are so lucky to be here with you.”
The “Love Story” singer shared after the show that she had watched footage of the people appreciating her music on the hill.
“What a magical experience it was playing in Munich,” she wrote on Instagram. “The crowds of 74,000 people a night in the stadium were so passionate, and so generous to us. And I had no idea before I got to Munich that there’s a huge park behind the stadium, but around 50,000 people came out and listened to the show from the hillside both nights.
“I’ve been watching so many videos of the crowds out there fully participating in the show from afar, all that joy… I’m feeling really grateful for the unexpected memories this tour has created.”
