TACO Bell is set to unleash a pair of new “important” items in a win for burrito lovers – but there’s a slight catch for the moment.

Fans must check their zip codes before they can try them, because they’re only being tested in two cities so far.

The Mexican-inspired fast food chain started testing new items on Thursday, USA Today reported.

The first of those included the Caliente Cantina Chicken Burrito in Cincinnati, Ohio.

In the same state, Charlotte Taco Bell fans were also in for a treat with the city playing host to an on-trial drink – the Strawberry Passionfruit Aguas Refrescas.

They come off the back of the newly-launched Cantina Chicken Menu.

The burrito, costing $5.99, comes with a new spicy sauce, Taco Bell has said.

The wider Cantina Chicken Menu made its worldwide debut in March a new push to cash in on Americans’ love for chicken.

Aside from burritos, items on the menu include taco quesadillas and a Cantina Chicken Bowl for the more carb-conscious customers.

The Strawberry Passionfruit Aguas Refrescas, costing $3.99, is a green tea mixed with strawberry-passionfruit flavouring and dehydrated strawberry pieces.

Taco Bell previously put similar drinks on trial in Southern California, including peach mango and dragonfruit berry varieties.

Food critics have already rushed to try the new Caliente Cantina Chicken Burrito, but it seems to have attracted mixed early reviews.

One tester for food website Tasting Table said it was a nice addition, but wasn’t convinced it added a new dimension to the restaurant’s menu.

A review said: “The Cantina Chicken is well-seasoned, tender, and juicy. Paired with the Caliente Sauce, the slow-roasted chicken becomes mouthwatering, with just the right amount of heat.

“Overall, the burrito offers a satisfying range of textures, from the crunch of the veggies and the moistness of the chicken to the chew of the flour tortilla.

“It’s a nice addition to the Cantina Chicken Menu lineup, but I’m not convinced it offers enough uniqueness to make a lasting impression.”
