Late Saturday night, news came out that Kansas City Chiefs star wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown had been hospitalized. This was due to a sternoclavicular joint dislocation and the status for him to start the regular season is now in doubt.

Insider Adam Schefter of ESPN broke the news on social media.
The injury occurred during the Chiefs’ first preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Brown suffered the injury on his first snap as a member of the Chiefs, when he was driven to the turf after catching a pass.
Chiefs head coach Any Reid spoke about the injury. He mentioned that Brown would miss some time and that the team would see where he was at later.
“I think he’ll miss some time. We’ll just see where it’s at, I mean, I said that they’re kind of going through it right now and we’ll know more later on,” Reid said after the game, via team transcripts.
This injury is similar to the Chiefs as former wide receiver Tyreek Hill suffered one just like it in 2019. He ended up missing four weeks due to the injury but Kansas City will be cautious with their star wide-out.
Brown joined the Chiefs this offseason, a move that most believed may have been the steal of the summer. While he has never made a Pro Bowl or All-Pro team, Brown has established himself as a very good wide receiver around the NFL.
He spent the last two seasons with the Arizona Cardinals after being traded away from the Baltimore Ravens. Last year, Brown posted 51 catches for 574 yards for four touchdowns despite inconsistent quarterback play.
His best career season came in the 2021 season, catching 91 passes for 1,008 yards and six touchdowns with Baltimore.
Brown is known for his speed and ability to get into open space so working with star quarterback Patrick Mahomes may be a cheat code for Kansas City. The regular season doesn’t start for a few more weeks so the team has some time to allow Brown to fully heal and rest up for the long year.
Kansas City drafted stud rookie receiver Xavier Worthy so he may be able to help hold things down until Brown can return. The hope is that the injury doesn’t linger and Brown can make a full recovery sooner rather than later.
