Olympic gold medallist Shayna Jack has announced her engagement to Australian hockey player, Joel Rintala.
In a joint post, the sporting power couple simply wrote the date of their special day: “10•08•2024”.
That means they got engaged over two weeks ago, when the Olympics were still running in Paris — though the swimming program had well and truly finished.

Jack won gold as a member of both the 4x100m and 4x200m freestyle teams which stood atop the dais in Paris.
Mollie O’Callaghan, also a member of both relay teams, commented on the post: “SO HAPPY FOR YOU GUYS!!!”
As did a number of other Australian swimming identities, including Bronte Campbell, who herself has only just celebrated her own engagement.
The champion swimmer took to social media to share the engagement news on Friday, posting a video and series of photos from Venice.
Campbell and longtime partner Benfield Lainchbury have clearly been enjoying their post-Olympics European vacation, and Campbell was in a playful mood in her first relationship reveal.
“Never know what to do with my hands in photos,” she wrote on a video, while cheekily flashing her new diamond ring.
“Venice: special for so many reasons,” she wrote with her famous swimming peers quick to catch on.
“Congratulations guys 😍😍 I love this video,” wrote Aussie great Emma McKeon.
Campbell and Lainchbury are childhood friends and started dating in 2016.
And he is credited with helping Campbell get back into the pool and push for a fourth Olympics and, as it turned out, a third gold medal.
Campbell had been struggling with several injuries (shoulder, neck, back and hip) after the Tokyo Games in 2021 and it seemed like her time in the pool was over.
But after an 18-month time-out, she returned … and the rest, as they say, is history (she was handed a gold medal for her part in the women’s 4x100m freestyle relay, although she did not swim in the final).
In her relationship update on Friday, Campbell also dropped a series of photos from the canals of the famous Italian city.
“What a week celebrating all that’s happened and all the exciting things to come,” she said.
“Love you Benfield. Easiest yes of my life.”
Fans, followers, and peers were naturally delighted.
Aussie Olympic hero Jess Fox wrote: “Ahhh🥰🥹🤩 congrats guys!!!”
While fellow Olympic swimmer Lani Pallister said: “YEAHHHHH THE POST WE ALL WANTED. Congratulations beautiful, here’s to a lifetime of happiness.”
Swimmer Shayna Jack said: “Congratulations to you both.”
And Seven presenter Mel McLaughlin said: “Congratulations lady! The best of times x.”
Bondi brewery owner Paul Parks said: “Congrats mate … Was the ring gold, silver or bronze?”
Motivational speaker Turia Pitt shouted: “OMG!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!”
TV sports reporter Roz Kelly said: “Congratulations, so happy for you.”
