In January, Sarah Ferguson, the ex-wife of Prince Andrew, announced that she had been diagnosed with skin cancer, less than a year after she underwent surgery for breast cancer last June. But on Monday, Sarah’s oldest daughter Princess Beatrice told ITV’s This Morning that her mother was recently given an “all-clear” by her doctors.
She added that her mother had taken on the challenge of her diagnosis with aplomb. “She’s such a phenomenal icon,” Beatrice said. “As a mum, she’s been amazing. She’s been through so much and her sense of purpose and resilience really keeps me going.”
Earlier this year, a friend gave People further details about Sarah’s condition, which included surgery for a malignant melanoma and a further lymph node biopsy. “Fortunately, they have turned out to be clear. This is the best news she could have on it at this stage,” the friend said. “She will have to attend checkups every 12 weeks. She is very relieved.”
Beatrice spoke to This Morning during a trip to New York City, and she was being filmed from the top of the Empire State Building. As a patron for the Outward Bound Trust, she made the visit to promote the charity’s first-ever fundraising rappel down the 102-story building. Also present for the event was Jared Leto, who posted footage from his journey down the side of the skyscraper to his social media accounts.

“On behalf of Outward Bound, thank you to the Empire State Building for hosting such an inspirational event,” the princess said in a statement. “Bringing young people out of their comfort zones and supporting them to achieve something they never thought possible is what Outward Bound is all about. I am so happy to offer my support as a trustee and a great admirer of the Outward Bound Trust and all they stand for—these participants really are an inspiration.”
