Ricky Gervais, Dave Chappelle, Jim Gaffigan, Nikki Glaser, and Trevor Noah were the five comedians nominated for the Grammy for Best Comedy Album on Friday morning.
Gervais, Chappelle and Noah scored for their respective specials Armageddon, The Dreamer, and Where Was I, which were all released on Netflix, with Glaser recognized for HBO’s Someday You’ll Die.
Remarkably, the nomination was the first for both Gervais and Glaser, whose career has reached new heights on the heels of her performance in Netflix’s Tom Brady roast. While Gaffigan recently took to Prime Video with the special Dark Pale, he was recognized for The Prisoner, which is the only one of the nominees only to have been released in album form.
Already, four of the five sets have been recognized with accolades from other major awards bodies. Gervais’s Armageddon won the first-ever Golden Globe for Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on Television earlier this, with Someday You’ll Die scoring a pair of Emmy nominations. The Dreamer has previously been nominated for two Emmys, along with DGA and PGA Awards, with Where Was I being put up for a pair of Emmys, a Golden Globe, and a Critics’ Choice Award.
Unlike Gervais and Glaser, the other three Grammy comedy contenders this year are veterans of their category. Chappelle has won five from six nominations, including last year for his album Dave Chappelle: What’s In A Name?, with Noah landing two, including this past year for Trevor Noah: I Wish You Would. (Notably, he’s also hosted the ceremony four times, including in 2024). Gaffigan, meanwhile, looks for his first win this year on the heels of seven prior nominations.
Set to broadcast on CBS and stream on Paramount+, the 67th Annual Grammy Awards will take place at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on February 2. View this morning’s full list of nominees above.
