On Sunday, Nov. 3, it was announced that music legend Quincy Jones had died at age 91, with his rep sharing the sad news with the world through a statement issued to Variety.
And now Quincy’s daughter Rashida Jones has issued a personal statement about her dad’s death on her Instagram page, with the Parks and Recreation star leaving her followers emotional with the touching tribute.
“When I was little, I would wake up in the middle of the night to search for him. Undoubtedly, he would be somewhere in the house, composing (old school, with a pen and sheet music). He would never send me back to bed,” Rashida recalled. “He would smile and bring me into his arms while he continued to work…there was no safer place in the world for me.”
“He was a giant. An icon. A culture shifter. A genius,” she went on. “All accurate descriptions of my father but his music (and ALL of his work) was a channel for his love. He WAS love. He made everyone he ever met feel loved and seen. That’s his legacy.”
“I was fortunate enough to experience this love in close proximity,” Rashida concluded. “I’ll miss his hugs and kisses and unconditional devotion and advice. Daddy, it is an honor to be your daughter. Your love lives forever.”
Rashida’s poignant words struck a chord with people, and many of her famous friends were among those who commented on the post.
Quincy shares 48-year-old Rashida and her sister Kidada, 50, with actor Peggy Lipton, who he was married to between 1974 and 1990.
