POPULAR grocery chain Stop & Shop confirmed another location will shut its doors for good.
The supermarket giant, which has over 400 locations, recently announced a total of 32 closures across the Northeast.
The Stop & Shop, located in Phillipsburg, New Jersey, announced they were officially closing their doors.
TAPinto initially confirmed the news earlier this week, announcing the supermarket’s last day would be on September 9, 2024.
The New Jersey location was originally set to close in early November, but its closing date was moved up to October 23, then September 9.
However, the manager revealed the store was running out of materials, including food items.

In July, the company announced it was closing 32 underperforming stores by the end of the year.
“Following the closures, Stop & Shop will continue to have a strong presence across its five-state footprint with more than 350 stores,” the press release read.
Gordon Reid, President of Stop & Stop, said they will continue to “nourish the communities.”
“Stop & Shop is proud of the deep roots and community ties we have developed as a neighborhood grocer of more than 100 years, and we remain committed to nourishing our associates, customers and communities,” said Reid.
“As we announced in May, Stop & Shop has evaluated its overall store portfolio and made the difficult decision to close underperforming stores to create a healthy base for the future growth of our brand.
“Our associates are a strong community dedicated to growing and working together, and all of our store associates will continue to have a place in the Stop & Shop family as we look forward to serving customers at other nearby locations,” Reid concluded.
In addition to Phillipsburg, nine other New Jersey locations will be closing their doors.
Other states impacted by the wave of Stop & Shop liquidation are New York, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut.
Since the news first broke out on Phillipsburg’s closure, fans shared their thoughts on social media.
“What a shame. I used to work in the produce dept in ’02-’04,” wrote one local.
“Another grocery option gone in P’burg. They really DO want EVERYONE at Wal-Mart, eh?” commented another.
EMPTY SHELVES
Despite the supermarket revealing they were closing at a later date, shoppers began to witness empty shelves since August.
One Facebook user detailed a time their husband went to the Phillipsburg location to get pain medication and was greeted with no product.
