Palermo Villa, Inc., a frozen pizza manufacturer, based out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, has announced a recall of its Connie’s Thin Crust Cheese Frozen Pizzas due to the potential presence of a foreign plastic contaminant.
The recall affects specific batches of the product that were distributed in multiple states, namely Illinois, Minnesota, and Wisconsin, to retail grocery stores.
According to the company’s announcement, dated December 13, the recall is being issued as a precautionary measure in the event that a product remains in a consumer’s freezer.

The company said that the pizzas are no longer available for purchase. Consumers are advised to check their freezers for these products and avoid consuming them.
Palermo Villa, Inc. has urged anyone with the affected items to either dispose of them or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
At this time, no injuries or illnesses related to the recall have been reported. However, the presence of plastic or other foreign objects in food products poses potential choking or injury risks.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has been notified of the recall and the company announcement was also posted on the FDA’s website, however, the agency has not yet classified the recall which denotes possible risk levels, with Class I being the highest risk level.
The agency reminded consumers that when a company announces a recall, market withdrawal, or safety alert, the FDA posts the company’s announcement as a public service and that the FDA does not endorse either the product or the company.
