PATRICK MAHOMES has sent a clear message to his Kansas City Chiefs offense following Rashee Rice’s injury.
The Chiefs quarterback led his team to another impressive 17-10 win over the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.
That takes their season to 4-0 after the win at Sofi Stadium, as their charge for three Super Bowls in a row continues.
But the victory was marred by the horror knee injury to superstar wide receiver Rice.
The 24-year-old was carted off the field, and looks set to miss the entire 2024-25 NFL season.
He is suspected to have torn his ACL, with tests to confirm the diagnosis scheduled for Monday.
Mahomes has now spoken out after the horrific scenes, and major blow to the Chiefs’ Super Bowl chances.
And the 29-year-old has told his offense, including Travis Kelce, they will need to step up in his absence.
“We’ll see what happens with Rashee,” Mahomes told ESPN reporter Field Yates.
“Hopefully we can get him back at some point this season.
“If not, other guys gotta step up.
“That’s what football is about.
“I think we’ve got a lot of good guys out there that can go out there and make plays.”
Mahomes will feel even worse about Rice’s injury after the Chargers game due to the circumstances of it.
It was the QB’s interception that led to the wide out being left stricken on the floor.
Meanwhile, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid confirmed Rice is having an MRI on Monday.
Chiefs injury crisis

The Chiefs saw wide receiver Rashee Rice taken off on the back of a medical cart at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
Kansas City was already without free agency signing wide receiver Hollywood Brown (shoulder) and starting running back Isiah Pacheco (fractured fibula).
Both are set to miss large parts of the 2024 NFL season.
Speaking after Sunday’s win over the LA Chargers sent them to 4-0, Mahomes said, “All we can do now is go back to the basics and try to get guys opportunities to succeed.
“The guys stepped up and filled in as good as they can the role that Rice has in our offense, which is a big one.”
“I feel terrible for Rashee, we will hope for the best,” said Reid.
The Chiefs have been contending with a number of significant problems so far this season.
Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown is out for the entire regular season.
But one positive note was the return to form for their superstar tight end Kelce.
He looked back to his old self against the Chargers, following a dismal start to the year.
The 34-year-old had seven catches for 89 yards, more than the previous three games combined.
