Patrick Beverley Calls Young Star ‘Best Player in NBA Next Season’

The 2024-25 NBA season is slowly approaching, as we are less than two months from the start of the season. The upcoming season is set to be one that will not disappoint, as players, especially the young star superstars, will make their mark.

One young superstar who is primed to take his game to the next level is San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama. Wembanyama is coming off a spectacular rookie season, and all signs point to him being even better in his sophomore season.

Wembanyama has all the natural skills to be an all-time great. Many, including former NBA All-Defensive guard Patrick Beverley, believe he will reach those levels.

In Beverley’s latest podcast, The “Pat Bev Pod,” he said that Wembanyama will establish himself as the best player in the NBA next season.

“You can’t even put him in comparison with other people. He is the best player in the NBA next year. He’s a center who shoots 3’s and dribbles the ball… He’s positionless. It’s him, Kevin Durant, and LeBron James in that category.”

Wembanyama is on pace to do just that despite his steep competition heading into the new season. Many would still put Nuggets star Nikola Jokić or Mavericks star Luka Dončić in that category; however, sooner or later, Wembanyama will be in that conversation, and it could happen sometime this upcoming season.

As a rookie last season, Wembanyama averaged 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 3.6 blocks per game on 46.5% shooting. For his efforts, he was awarded the Sixth Man of the Year award and was the runner-up for Defensive Player of the Year behind Rudy Gobert.

Although the Spurs record didn’t reflect Wembanyama’s numbers, that should all change soon. The Spurs made some significant moves to help him out, adding future Hall of Fame point guard Chris Paul. San Antonio is expected to be a bit better in 2025, and it will all start and end with the 20-year-old.

Wembanyama is already a star, and he proved it as such during the 2024 Paris Olympics, leading France to the gold medal game against Team USA. Although France fell short, Wembanyama was spectacular, scoring a team-high 26 points, seven rebounds, two assists, and one steal in 30 minutes.

The Spurs may not be a threat now, but in due time, they will return to glory and be led by the most dynamic and imposing presence we may ever see in the sport.
