Unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk was arrested today for unknown reasons at the Krakow Airport in Poland.
In an update from Usyk:
“All is well my friends. There was a misunderstanding that was quickly resolved. Thank you to everyone who was worried. Thank you, Ukrainian diplomats, for your support. And respect to Polish law enforcers, who perform their duties despite the height, weight, arm range, and regalia.”
It’s good news that the situation has been resolved so quickly, with Usyk being released from custody. He didn’t say what the reason was for him to be arrested.
What Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs) would have done to be arrested is unclear. Fans on social media joke that he’s being arrested due to the thrashing he did to Tyson Fury on May 18th, beating the living daylights out of him and having him looking upward at distant galaxies in the ninth round after being hit with 20 consecutive headshots.
The unbeaten Usyk is preparing for his rematch with former WBC heavyweight champion Fury on December 21st in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Fury may have thought he was off the hook after hearing about Usyk’s arrest, but now he’s once again up against it. He can’t be too happy about it.
Now that the fight is back on, Fury is going to have to figure out a way to keep from getting beaten up again because the last fight didn’t end too well for him. Usyk dominated the contest and won going away. He could have knocked out Fury if not for the referee stepping in to give Tyson a standing eight found in the ninth.
Usyk already beat Fury last May and is now looking to send him down for his second straight loss. That would make Usyk 4-0 from his fights against Fury and Anthony Joshua.
