SAN Francisco 49ers star Nick Bosa is causing controversy after a political statement on live TV.
Bosa crashed a postgame interview on Sunday night and made his political views known to the world.
Bosa sprinted into an interview with Brock Purdy and George Kittle and pointed to his head.
Cameras could see him wearing a white “Make America Great Again” hat, supporting Donald Trump.
Bosa was only on TV for a few seconds, but he could be at risk of a hefty fine from the NFL.
According to rule 5 , Section 4, Article 8 of the NFL rulebook, the entire time a player is “visible to the stadium and television audience,” they are “prohibited from wearing, displaying, or otherwise conveying personal messages either in writing or illustration, unless such message has been approved in advance by the League office.”
These rules are even more strict when it comes to political statements made by players.
“The League will not grant permission for any club or player to wear, display, or otherwise convey messages, through helmet decals, arm bands, jersey patches, mouthpieces, or other items affixed to game uniforms or equipment, which relate to political activities or causes, other non-football events, causes or campaigns, or charitable causes or campaigns.”
According to the NFL’s website, Bosa could be in for a $11,255 fine as a first-time offender of the “personal messages” policy.
There has already been one instance of this policy being broken, coming in Week 5 when Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver wrote “always f***ing open” on his eyeblack.
Pickens was fined $10,231 for that violation of the policy.
Bosa didn’t have much to say when confronted about wearing the hat in his own post game presser.
“I’m not going to talk too much about it,” he said.
“But I think it’s an important time.”
In fact, Bosa didn’t even wear the hat to his press conference after starting to get heat for wearing it online.
Many fans called him out for his display, comparing it to Colin Kaepernick who was ran out of the league for making his own political statements.
“It’s ‘keep politics out of sports’ until it fits the agenda huh,” one fan said.
