The Bills’ fans’ tactic took place while trying to block a field goal in the first quarter of the snow-filled Sunday Night Football game.

Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park had wintry conditions – and Bills fans attempted to use the climate to their advantage.

49ers kicker Jake Moody attempted a 33-yard field goal as cameras showed the ball going through the uprights.

The made kick gave San Francisco the early 3-0 lead but TV viewers spotted something unusual during the play.

Fans noticed that a snowball was thrown and close to the path of the kick.

Luckily for the 49ers, the snowball didn’t hit the football and couldn’t hit it anyway as the raised net behind the field goal posts blocked the snowball.

Fans shared their reactions to the thrown snowball sequence on X.

“Points for creativity,” one wrote.

“Dedicated to the team,” another said.

“Home field advantage baby,” a third commented.

Fans also compared the throw to a scene in the 2003 hit movie Elf in which the character Buddy the Elf, played by Will Ferrell, threw fast and accurate snowballs during a snowball fight.

Bills fans also tossed snowballs onto the field numerous times during the game, including when Christian McCaffrey was leaving the field with a serious injury.

The snow displayed other fun moments, as Bills fans threw snow into the air after Ray Davis scored Buffalo’s first touchdown.

The Bills fans would throw snowballs into the air four more times after a touchdown as the team finished with a total of five in the primetime contest.

Buffalo was hit by roughly two feet of snow by Sunday morning.

Snowballs have been a popular part of snow games in the city.

Before last season’s AFC divisional round clash with the Kansas City Chiefs, the Bills sent a memo to not throw snowballs on the field.

But Bills fans threw snowballs anyway and after the playoff loss to the Chiefs, fans pelted Patrick Mahomes with snowballs from the stands.

The 9-2 Bills will face the 6-6 Los Angeles Rams next Sunday at 4:25 pm Eastern.

The Rams are coming off a 21-14 road win over the New Orleans Saints.
