DENNIS Allen was fired by the New Orleans Saints on Monday – and the team’s dismal injury situation was to blame.
The Saints are bottom of the NFC South following a seventh-straight loss on Sunday.
Allen took charge of the team in 2022 but failed to reach the postseason in either of his two seasons.
The Saints have started 2-7 this year despite winning their opening two games.
General manager Mickey Loomis took the decision to part with Allen earlier this week.
In a tell-all interview, Loomis revealed the Saints mammoth injury list played a large part in Allen’s dismissal.
Loomer told WWL Radio: “Dennis Allen, I think, is a fantastic football coach.
“I think anybody in our league who would talk about him thinks he’s a fantastic football coach, he is.
“I think in this case, the circumstances created the record.
“That’s just the truth and a lot of people don’t want to hear it.
“It just gets right back to what stares at you right in the face is that we’ve had an abnormal amount of injuries, including to our quarterback.
“We haven’t been able to overcome that, and so that puts pressure and stress on the organization and ultimately it was cause for a change.”
Saints quarterback Derek Carr has missed several games this season due to injury.
New Orleans have also been dealing with another concussion to star wideout Chris Olave, with breakout star Rashid Shaheed now on injury reserve.
Shane Lemieux, Erik McCoy and Ryan Ramczyk are all missing from the offensive line due to various medical ailments.
The result has been seven-straight losses for the Saints, who opened up to the season 2-0.

Special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi has been named as the Saints’ interim coach.
They now appear firmly in the race for the No. 1 pick and traded away Marshon Lattimore to the Washington Commanders on Tuesday.
Loomis added: “There’s plenty of time for that when the season ends.
“Our focus has got to be on our team, our players, our coaches, our staff.
“You learn more about who you have and who the people are that you’re working with in adversity than you do when things are going well.”
