Amid his divorce from Jennifer Lopez, Ben Affleck received some words of support from fellow Massachusetts native Mindy Kaling.
The Office alum was tasked with hosting the third night of the 2024 Democratic National Convention on Wednesday, August 21. After a long night of speeches at The United Center in Chicago, Illinois, The Mindy Project creator closed out the evening with a special call-out to the Commonwealth State.
“I couldn’t leave here without giving a shoutout to the amazing delegation from my home state, Massachusetts,” the 45-year-old exclaimed. “I love you, Massachusetts!”
The comedian went on to say, “Everyone is always hating on us! But they just don’t get it!”
“Go [Red] Sox! Go Jason Tatum! Ben Affleck, hang in there! Dunkin’ Donuts is the best coffee in the world,” the mom of three proudly shouted. While Kaling’s mention of Affleck was a nod to his split from Lopez, he also has ties to Dunkin’, the Massachusetts staple he has a well-known partnership with — even appearing in the 2024 Superbowl commercial for the brand.
The Massachuttes section in the stadium seemed to love the Tony Award winner’s shoutout as they cheered and clapped for her.
Kaling’s words of encouragement to Affleck occurred just one day after Lopez filed for divorce on Tuesday, August 20 — a rather symbolic date for the former couple as it falls on the two-year anniversary of their second wedding ceremony held in Georgia.
The “Jenny from the Block” singer, who reconciled with Affleck in 2021 after splitting up in the early 2000s, first married Affleck in a Las Vegas ceremony in July 2022.
Things weren’t looking good for the former power couple earlier this summer as it was reported that the Gone Girl actor had moved out of their shared home in California. In May, Lopez canceled her This Is Me…Live tour stating she needed to “be with her children, family and close friends.”
Amid their split, both Lopez and Affleck have been there for their children. On Tuesday the Good Will Hunting star was spotted with ex-wife Jennifer Garner by his side in New Haven, Connecticut, where the pair were dropping their eldest daughter Violet off at Yale.
