Mika Brzezinski Says Morning Joe Is ‘A Family’ Despite Drama

It’s no secret that things on Morning Joe can get tense at times, but host Mika Brzezinski absolutely loves her job.

“My favorite part of the job is working with this incredible team,” she told Woman’s World in a recent interview. “I love all of our producers, and the people who I work closest with on a daily basis are not only the best in the business, but I’m personally comfortable with and grateful for them. I love the people who I work with very much, and some of us have been together for 18 years.”

Mika, 57, has shared hosting duties with husband Joe Scarborough and Willie Geist since 2007.

“We’re long-term colleagues, and Morning Joe is a family,” she added. “Everyone loves being a part of it. I think that’s what makes our connection on the air so special. The conversation, as tough as it can be, is based on real care for our viewers, for the truth and for each other.”

Mika and Joe got married in 2018, 11 years after they first started working together. They’ve become one of the most well-known duos on morning television and a staple in the MSNBC lineup.

The TV personality, who shares kids Emilie and Carlie with ex-husband Jim Hoffer, described what her typical morning routine looks like as a Morning Joe host.

“We’re working into the night reading and trying to follow everything throughout the day, and of course I’m working on Know Your Value,” she said in reference to

“I hoist myself out of bed at 4 a.m. and about three-quarters of the time I’m doing my hair and makeup on my own,” she revealed. “It doesn’t look as good as if a professional does it, but it’s an important time and I just don’t think it matters. It’s the art of what’s possible right now. I’m listening to the news, and then we do a call and then we’re on TV, and it’s 6 a.m. every morning, for four hours straight.”

When she’s not on the air, Mika enjoys spending time at her family’s house in Maine, which she inherited from her parents. Her Instagram is full of photos from her time spent at the property, working on her garden and projects around the home.

“My favorite thing about summer is lobster dinners at our house in Maine with a lot of vodka,” she told Parade in July 2012. “We ask all the kids around the table — at this point, there are five grandchildren — what their favorite part of the day was. It’s always something wayward, fun, and whimsical: a massive jellyfish attack or the time the dog jumped in the water. That’s the moment when I say to myself, ‘Wow, finally, for one second, time has stopped and I can just take a breath and think about how wonderful life is.’”
