KIRK Cousins has lost his starting quarterback job to Michael Penix Jr.
After only 14 weeks as the quarterback of the Atlanta Falcons, Cousins’ time as the team leader appears to be over.
Cousins started out hot in his new position in Atlanta, but he struggled immensely in recent weeks.
Things got so bad that the Falcons decided to try out their rookie quarterback.
When discussing the quarterback situation in Atlanta, Michael Strahan declared that Cousins started his last game in the NFL.
“I think so,” Strahan said.
“There is consistency… consistently mediocre. That’s what Kirk [Cousins] has been this year.
“Whenever you’re a great player in your mind you’re still that, but sometimes your skill level diminishes and it drops.
“You don’t know when it’s going to happen, it can happen at any point in the season.
“I think for Kirk Cousins it happened now.”
Strahan didn’t think that Cousins would leave the league, but theorized he would serve as the Falcons’ backup.
“Keep him around, let him teach Michael Penix the intricacies of the game,” Strahan continued.
“It’s good to have that veteran influence, but I think Kirk may have to just humble himself to understand that’s his role right now.”
Jay Glazer later chimed in, saying that Cousins has to work on his mental toughness.
“The other part is I think Kirk has lost his confidence,” Glazer said.
After their analysis, Penix went on to win his debut game against the New York Giants 34-7.
Penix threw for 202 yards and one interception, but led his team to a much needed win.
NFL on Netflix
Netflix will be the global home of the NFL on Christmas Day this year.
“It was such a blessing and it was a great game,” Penix said after the win.
“I was ready for the moment.”
Penix’s performance might have justified the Falcons’ high selection of him in the 2024 NFL Draft.
The team shocked many when they drafted him with the No. 8 overall pick after signing Cousins.
Cousins signed a four-year, $180 million deal in the offseason.
