Mary Trump’s Four-Word Response to New Donald Trump Post

Mary Trump’s Four-Word Response to New Donald Trump Post

Former President Donald Trump’s estranged niece, Mary Trump, made a four-word post on social media on Saturday in response to her uncle’s recent Truth Social post.

In November, Donald Trump, the GOP presidential nominee, is set to face off against Vice President Kamala Harris, who on Thursday formally accepted the Democratic presidential nomination at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago.

On Saturday, the former president took to Truth Social, his social media platform, to reshare another user’s photo and caption. The user, Trump Army, posted a photo of Donald Trump on a lion and wrote, “There is only one candidate who can Make America Great Again.”

In response to the post, Mary Trump, who is a vocal critic of her uncle, wrote on X, formerly Twitter, on Saturday, “Cats hate you. Weirdo.”

Newsweek has reached out to Trump’s campaign via email for comment.

Mary Trump hasn’t supported her uncle’s recent presidential campaigns and in 2020 she published a memoir that was critical of him, Too Much and Never Enough.

Responding to Mary Trump’s recent X post, Steven Cheung, the former president’s communications director, said in an emailed statement to Newsweek on Sunday morning, “Trump Derangement Syndrome is a serious issue and some people need to get checked out.”

While reasons behind the post remain unclear, one of the Harris campaign’s main lines of attack on the Trump campaign has been to describe the former president and his running mate Ohio Senator JD Vance as “weird” after Vance described prominent Democrats as “childless cat ladies” during a 2021 Fox News interview and Trump sought to defend him.

Mary Trump has also recently praised the Harris campaign for its response to attacks by Donald Trump, including him saying that Harris would make a “terrible president” and admitting that he does not have “a lot of respect for her” or her “intelligence.”

“What the Harris and Walz ticket understands is that the best way to take down a bully with the kind of power Donald Trump has, the kind of unimaginable power he hopes to seize, is to mock him and encourage others to laugh at him,” Mary Trump said in her newsletter, “The Good In Us” last week.

Previously speaking to Newsweek, Cheung said: “She [Mary Trump] has no idea what she’s talking about and should probably spend a little less time on Resistance Twitter and more time in the real world, where she would realize Americans support President Trump and want him back in the White House.”

Mary Trump’s post on Saturday comes after she attended the DNC this past week and posted a video of Harris’ acceptance speech on X and wrote, “We are witnessing history tonight.”

Harris entered the presidential race just over a month ago, following President Joe Biden’s unprecedented exit on July 21. During the DNC, Democratic politicians, celebrities, delegates and others joined together to unite behind Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.

Since Harris became the Democratic nominee for president, national poll aggregators have put her either ahead of Donald Trump or neck-and-neck.

It marks a stark contrast from the beginning of July when Biden was still in the race and Donald Trump was consistently polling ahead of him. This, according to Mary Trump, is a source of great frustration for her uncle.

“He continues to be furious that he’s no longer running against President Biden,” she wrote last week in her newsletter. “He has no idea how to combat the fact that he’s losing, so he engages in more cruelty.”
