Mark Cuban Responds to Elon Musk Calling Out His Support For Harris

Mark Cuban has responded to Elon Musk after the Tesla CEO called him out for showing support for Kamala Harris on his social media platform X.

Musk shared a September 14 post by the conservative account @amuse which read, “Mark Cuban thinks you should pay more in taxes. The top 50% of earners in the US pay 97% of taxes. In fact, the top 5% pay 60% of taxes. Mark talks to Kamala Harris’s campaign three to four times a week giving her ideas for taxing you more.”

Cuban has repeatedly praised Harris’ economic policies, which include raising corporation taxes, frequently defending them against critics on X. He has previously stated he speaks to the administration multiple times a week to advise on taxation.

Musk, meanwhile, is an outspoken Trump supporter. Sharing the post, he added the comment, “Hmm.”

In response, on September 15, Cuban firstly congratulated Musk on Polaris, the successful SpaceX mission that saw the first non-professional astronaut perform a spacewalk during a five-day orbit, saying it was a “truly an amazing accomplishment.”

He then added, “If you want to directly ask me questions about any of @KamalaHarris policies and approach, I’m happy to tell you what I know. In exchange I’m hoping you will do the same about the Republican Candidate.”

Cuban disabled comments on his post from any account besides Musk’s and Harris’, and neither appear to have replied so far. It has received almost 5,000 likes and 650 reposts.

Newsweek has contacted Cuban and Musk for comment via email.

In the run-up to the election, Cuban has been increasingly vocal about his support for Harris on X. Earlier this month he got into a dispute with Trump adviser Stephen Miller over the former president’s economic policy that lasted several days.

This also isn’t the first time Cuban has hit back at a post by Musk. At the start of September, Cuban told Musk to “delete your account” after Musk said Darryl Cooper’s interview with Tucker Carlson was “worth watching,” despite it featuring extremely controversial statements about World War II. Musk deleted the post.

Cuban also confronted the X founder after Musk posted about freedom of speech being the “bedrock of democracy,” to which Cuban responded, “You do realize that YOU make the decisions on how ‘Truths’ are amplified or suppressed on this platform?”

Cuban has criticized Trump on a number of occasions, describing Trump’s answers to questions as “gibberish” after the former president’s speech at the Economic Club of New York, and accused him of copying Harris’ policies.
