THE Kansas City Chiefs have major injury concerns going into their Week 10 clash with the Denver Broncos.
Andy Reid’s team have had a perfect start to the 2024-25 NFL season with an unbeaten 8-0 start.
That included a dramatic 30-24 overtime win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday Night Football.
The Chiefs did suffer a huge injury scare in that game, with Patrick Mahomes having to be helped off.
The 29-year-old hurt his ankle on a touchdown throw, and had to be treated by staff.
The star quarterback did go back into the game, which his side eventually went on to win.
But he revealed after the clash fears that the ankle would swell this week ahead of the Broncos showdown.
That has been in the case, and the QB was added to the injury report for Week 10.
Mahomes was in practice on Wednesday, and looked to be fit to train on Thursday too.
But he is not the only problem head coach Reid has to contend with.
They have a wide receiver situation, with Juju Smith-Schuster out of practice with a hamstring problem.
Mecole Hardman was also struggling with a shoulder issue.
And that’s on top of the season-ending injuries to Rashee Rice and Hollywood Brown.
Defensive tackle Tershawn Wharton was also out of practice with a knee problem.
Fellow DT Derrick Nnadi has tricep issues, adding to the Chiefs’ woes.
And Kareem Hunt is battling issues with his knee, in a major running back blow.
Diamonds are forever
Kansas City’s newest Super Bowl rings feature 529 diamonds, 38 rubies and a nod to their game-winning play.
The Chiefs flashed their latest piece of jewelry at a special ceremony on Thursday, June 13.
The new bling features the years of Kansas City’s Super Bowl wins – 1969, 2019, 2022 and 2023.
It also has a handwritten drawing of Andy Reid’s ‘Tom and Jerry’ play which won Super Bowl LVIII at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Kansas City beat the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 in overtime in February.
And the rings feature 22 diamonds to represent the points Kansas City scored in the second half and overtime.
Nineteen diamonds also represent their 11 straight winning seasons and eight AFC West titles in a row.
While there is also commemorative patch for the late Norma Hunt, the matriarch of the family which owns the Chiefs who died last summer.
Defensive ends George Karlaftis and Michael Danna having abdominal and pectoral injuries respectively.
And safety Nazeeh Johnson is battling a concussion.
Meanwhile, the Broncos has a number of injury problems of their own.
Defensive end Zach Allen and OT Mike McGlinchey were in limited practice.
They were joined by Drew Sanders and Luke Wattenberg.
