Now that the cover athlete has been named, more information is beginning to come about the game, which will be released in August. And on Friday, fans got a sneak peek at the ratings for the upcoming video game.

Who is in the Madden 99 Club?

The Madden 99 club is an honor given to players who receive the exclusive 99 rating in the video game. Few players get it each year, as it only goes to the players who are the best at their respective positions.

This year, according to maddenratings.com, there are five players in the 99 club.

1. Patrick Mahomes, QB, Kansas City Chiefs

Mahomes is coming off back-to-back Super Bowl MVP awards and is in a league of his own as the best quarterback in the NFL. There’s a good chance Mahomes remains in the Madden 99 club for the better part of the next decade, as he is the undisputed best player in football.

2. Christian McCaffrey, RB, San Francisco 49ers

The cover athlete was obviously going to be in the 99 Club, and he’s earned the honor. McCaffrey is the best running back in the NFL, and maybe even the best all-around offensive weapon. McCaffrey is coming off a 2023 season in which he rushed for 1,459 yards and 14 touchdowns while adding another 564 yards and seven touchdowns through the air. He won the Offensive Player of the Year award and finished third in MVP voting. He also earned himself a nice contract extension this offseason.

3. Justin Jefferson, WR, Minnesota Vikings

Speaking of contract extensions, Jefferson became the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL when he signed a four-year, $140 million extension with the Vikings earlier this month. Jefferson appeared in just 10 games in 2023 due to injury but still reeled in 1,074 yards and five touchdowns. A healthy Jefferson is arguably the best receiver in football.

4. Travis Kelce, TE, Kansas City Chiefs

Kelce joins Mahomes as the only players on the same team to be in the Madden 99 club. Kelce continues to play at a high level at 34 years old. In 2023, he had 93 receptions for 984 yards and five touchdowns in 15 games.

5. Tyreek Hill, WR, Miami Dolphins

Hill used to be teammates with Mahomes and Kelce, but now he’s in Miami, where he’s continued to be the most unstoppable receiver in football. Hill was the best receiver in 2023 with Jefferson sidelined, reeling in 119 receptions for an incredible 1,799 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Players who just missed the cut and have a 98 rating are Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson, Dallas Cowboys DE Micah Parsons, Cleveland Browns DE Myles Garrett, 49ers OT Trent Williams, and Cowboys OG Zack Martin.
