MINDY Kailing fans gushed as she took the stage for day three of the Democratic National Convention, however, she had an awkward moment after her Gen Z joke fell flat with the crowd.

Kaling, 45, welcomed the crowd in Chicago’s United Center as she took on her hosting duties for the convention.

Fans were quick to compliment the star’s style, with one person asking how she looks better as she ages.

“Damn, Mindy Kaling! Looking absolutely fiiiiiiine!” wrote another person on X.

“Mindy Kaling’s glow up is amazing,” a third person wrote.

However, the actress made a small blunder at the podium after referring to herself as an “incredibly famous Gen Z actress.”

“My name is Mindy Kaling,” the star introduced herself.

“For those of you who don’t know me, I am an incredibly famous Gen Z actress,” she said, pausing to some chuckles from the crowd.

Mindy was born in 1979, making her part of Generation X – and just one year behind the start of the Millennial generation.

“Who you might recognize from The Office…The Mindy Project, or as the woman who courageously outed Kamala Harris as Indian in an Instagram cooking video,” she added.

Not all viewers found the joke funny and quickly flooded social media with their thoughts.

“Gen Z actress? According the internets, Mindy Kaling was born in 1979. That’s Gen X,” one viewer wrote.

‘Why does he sound like that,’ cry Bill Clinton supporters after DNC appearance – but he still takes hit at Trump’s age

“Mindy Kaling isn’t Gen Z… she’s not even millennial. SHE IS GEN X,” another viewer mentioned.

“Ok, so I’m not the only one who heard that. Just skipped the millennials and went straight to Gen Z. LOL,” a third viewer wrote.

“At a minimum, she’s an Elder Millennial lol,” a fourth user commented.

“Mindy Kaling was joking when she said she was Gen Z right? #DNC2024,” another user questioned, posting a gif of Mindy’s character from The Office, Kelly Kapoor.

“I flew first class to Twitter for this comment,” another viewer added.

Still, some viewers jumped in to defend the star, clearly in on the joke.

“She’s just being her goofy funny self,” one viewer wrote.

“‘I’m a very famous gen z actress’ is so very Mindy Kaling,” another viewer wrote, alongside a crying laughing emoji.

“She’s a comedian and she’s joking,” another user dryly replied.

Mindy’s speech included a touching memory of her first time meeting Harris, and noted that both of their mothers, who have sadly passed away, were immigrants from India.

She also said that the Vice President “can really cook,” but had “no desire” to be “seen as better than anyone else.”

She also closed out her speech by giving a shoutout to her home state of Massachusetts.

“Everyone is always hating on us, but they just don’t get it!” she exclaimed.

“Go Sox! Go Jayson Tatum! Ben Affleck, hang in there! Dunkin’ Donuts is the best coffee in the world!” she yelled, before leaving the stage.

Mindy was referencing, among other things, Jennifer Lopez’s recent decision to file for divorce from her estranged husband.

“lol @mindykaling telling Ben Affleck to ‘hang in there,'” one viewer wrote.

“Mindy telling Ben Affleck to “hang in there” during her ode to Boston has me dyingggggg,” another viewer wrote.

“not mindy kaling giving a shout out to ben affleck,” another viewer commented.

Even a fictional president made an appearance – Tony Goldwyn, who is best known for playing President Fitzgerald Grant on the ABC hit series, Scandal.

DNC DAY THREE

Still, while the third night of the DNC may be a star-studded affair, the night’s speakers also include some prominent political names.

From former president Bill Clinton to Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi, the night will include several familiar faces.

Minnesota Governor and Kamala Harris’ running mate, Tim Walz, is also expected to take the stage in a headlining speech.

Meanwhile, former president and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump was in Asheboro, North Carolina.

He hosted his first outdoor rally since July, where he survived an assassination attempt.

Earlier in the afternoon, a bulletproof glass box was seen placed around a podium where Trump spoke, as reported by AP News.
