Khloé Kardashian is keeping it real about her weight loss journey — and why Ozempic has her feeling some type of way.

“Over the past three years, people are like, ‘You must have gotten surgery because you just lost weight,'” the 40-year-old Keeping Up With the Kardashians star told Bustle in an interview published Tuesday, December 3. “I’m like, ‘It’s been a 10-year journey! What are you talking about?'”

Despite the speculation, the reality TV star defended those turning to weight loss drugs. “Even if people get surgery or [get on] the Ozempic craze, I’m like, ‘Who cares!’ As long as people feel good about themselves, who am I to judge?”

She added, “I’m just mad [Ozempic] wasn’t around 10 years ago.”

For those in the dark, “Ozempic is a once-weekly injectable medication used to help manage blood sugar levels for those living with Type 2 diabetes,” according to the Cleveland Clinic. It’s now also widely used off-label to aid weight loss by mimicking a hormone that reduces appetite and promotes fullness. While it’s not a quick fix, experts say it changes how your body responds to food and weight loss, making it an effective tool for managing obesity.

In addition to joking about Ozempic not being around during her own transformation, Kardashian revealed her fitness journey started as a way to cope with personal struggles, including her divorce from Lamar Odom in 2016. She initially turned to therapy but quit after a breach of trust.

“I was going to therapy and the next thing I knew, something private I told my therapist was on a tabloid,” she shared. After that, she found solace in the gym. “I needed a release, but I did not trust anybody else anymore,” she said, “And the place that I felt the safest was the gym.”

As her body transformed, the Good American co-founder faced new challenges, admitting she’s sometimes harder on herself now than she was before. “Looking back, when I was bigger, I thought I was the hottest thing in the world,” she confessed. “I had so much more confidence the bigger I was, which is what’s crazy. And then the more in shape I am, the more insecure I can get because I’m so hard on myself.”

After ending her marriage with Odom, 45, in 2013 and finalizing their divorce in 2016, Kardashian had a few high-profile flings before connecting with NBA player Tristan Thompson later that year. The pair quickly made their relationship official, and by 2018, they welcomed their first child, True. However, their on-again, off-again romance has been marked by multiple cheating scandals, including Thompson, 33, fathering a child with another woman in 2021.

Despite the ups and downs, the pair have remained committed to co-parenting. In 2022, they welcomed a second child, Tatum, via surrogate, though Kardashian made it clear their relationship is strictly platonic. “No, I am not [still seeing him], I’m really not,” she revealed in a December 2022 lie detector test, adding, “I would die if it said I was.”

Season 1-5 of The Kardashians is available to watch on Hulu.
