JERRY JONES has dropped a major hint over hiring a Dallas Cowboys legend as their next head coach.
The NFC East strugglers have had an awful 2024-25 NFL season so far, with a 3-6 record.
That came ahead of a Monday Night Football showdown against the talented Houston Texans.
There have been huge calls by fans and analysts for head coach Mike McCarthy to be fired.
He was lucky to keep his job after an embarrassing exit from the playoffs at home to the Green Bay Packers last season.
And the Cowboys have suffered a number of humiliating defeats at the AT&T Stadium this year.
Their billionaire owner Jones has now hinted at his possible replacement in one of his former players.
Jason Witten is a Cowboys legend, having played at tight end with them for 15 seasons.
The 42-year-old is a private high school football coach at present, and is very highly regarded.
And Jones has stirred rumors of a possible position for the icon if McCarthy is sacked.
“Yes. Without hesitation. Yes,” replied Jones to a question on whether Witten would be a good head coach.
“He has something that you can’t draw up.
“He reminds me a lot of our other tight end who is head coach up there in Detroit right now.
“Jason is very sophisticated when it comes to understanding football and all the nuances.
“But more important than anything, he really does understand the physical and the mentality of being physical and that part of it.
“Without a question, he could become an NFL coach.
