Jax Taylor reveals he’s been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and PTSD

Jax Taylor is updating fans on his health and life after spending a month in an in-patient facility—the 45-year-old recently shared news about a diagnosis he received after checking into treatment in late July.

“A little over a month ago, I checked into an intensive inpatient treatment facility scared of the unknown and what I would find out about myself,” the Valley star captioned a Sept. 2, 2024, Instagram post. “After many years of knowing something was wrong but not knowing exactly what it was, I recently learned that I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder and PTSD.”

The reality star opened up about his feelings, saying, “It’s been a lot to process and an emotional time for me, however I’ve come home to my son with a new found sense of peace. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t scared for the future but my focus is just trying to be a better version of myself than I was yesterday. Mental health is a lifelong battle of not letting it control you but rather you learning to control it.”

Jax, who’s currently going through a divorce from fellow Vanderpump Rules alum Brittany Cartwright, finds motivation in their 3-year-old son Cruz. In late July, he posted a photo kissing Cruz’s cheek with the caption, “Working on getting better for you and myself buddy, I love you.”

A spokesperson for the Bravo star stated that Jax had entered a mental health facility. “Jax has always been candid about his mental health struggles, especially during the past few months on his podcast,” the rep said on July 30, 2024. “This is a particularly sensitive time for him and his family. They ask for privacy and respect until he is ready to speak more on this matter.”

In late August, Brittany filed for divorce after five years of marriage. She later explained her decision to fans. “Many have said online they think this has been a publicity stunt for the show or to garner ratings, and it’s the furthest thing from that,” Brittany said on the Aug. 30, 2024, episode of their podcast When Reality Hits With Jax and Brittany. “My decision to file wasn’t made lightly or quickly.”

Jax and Brittany’s relationship was first shown on Vanderpump Rules before they left the show in 2020. “It’s taken me many, many years to get to this point where I’ve gained enough courage to strength to do what was best for me, get myself out of a toxic relationship and ultimately see my worth,” Brittany shared on the podcast. “It’s been very difficult, but I’m stronger than ever and my motivation is my son, my Cruisey, who deserves a happy and healthy mommy.”
