James Martin reveals concerns over his body as work takes a toll

TV chef James Martin, who hosts James Martin’s Saturday Morning this weekend (November 16), previously expressed worries over his weight.

In a recent interview, the 52-year-old cook opened up about his love for cheese, which began with his grandma’s handmade Cheddar scones, as well as eating Yorkshire Brack with his grandfather.

James Martin on his ‘favourite’ cheese

“Probably one of my favourite cheeses of all is Comté. It’s like the equivalent to our Cheddar but it’s produced on the French-Swiss border,” he told The Independent earlier this month.

Your brain is telling you that you can do it, but your legs are telling you otherwise!

James also expressed that he loves hard cheeses, such as Manchego. “The kind of stuff that can really hold over Christmas – I know people can pick on Manchego so it’s great if you have a little bit of Spanish ham and just serve it for Boxing Day. You don’t need to cook,” he continued.

After being a pastry chef for more than 30 years, James is also keen to a cheese-based dessert. He recommend putting goat’s cheese with icing sugar in desserts, serving it with an apple tarte tatin or a lemon tart.

The moment James realised he’s ‘not 22 any more’

While working at his restaurant, the Kitchen at Chewton Glen in Hampshire, James confessed concerns over his calorie intake while admitting that he has a habit of picking at “bits and pieces” during his shift – cheese in particular.

Keeping an eye on his weight, he insisted that “everything’s a balance – certainly as you get older with your diet”.

Expressing concerns, James admitted that he has noticed that his long hours are now taking a toll on him.

“You get to 52 and you’re working in the kitchen, you run around the kitchen, [but] you’re not 22 any more. You’re still working the hours, your brain is telling you that you can do it, but your legs are telling you otherwise!” he said.
