Last night, Senator J. D. Vance and Governor Tim Walz went head-to-head in the first vice presidential debate of the 2024 election.
When asked about immigration, Vance said: “In Springfield, Ohio, and in communities all across this country you’ve got schools that are overwhelmed, you’ve got hospitals that are overwhelmed, you’ve got housing that is totally unaffordable because we’ve brought in millions of illegal immigrants to compete with Americans for scarce homes.”
However, moderators quickly pointed out that a large population of those “illegal immigrants” in Springfield that Vance is referring to, are actually Haitian migrants who are in the US legally through temporary protective status.
