RUMORS have circulated that a Matilda sequel is on its way after a movie poster titled The Trunch went viral.
The sequel surrounding Miss Trunchball’s childhood would follow her villain origin story – but sadly the poster, and the idea of a second movie, is a hoax.
What is the original Matilda movie?
It was every 90s child’s favourite movie – full of misbehaving kids, evil adults and inspirational scenes that will always be remembered.
The plot revolves around a little girl named Matilda Wormwood, who possesses telekinetic abilities, enjoys reading, and is on a mission to depose her school’s tyrannical headmistress.
The original film was released in 1996, and it’s starring Danny DeVito and Pam Ferris.
In November 2013, reports circulated that another movie version of Dahl’s 1988 novel Matilda was scheduled to begin development.
Years later on January 28, 2020, it was confirmed that Netflix and Sony Pictures teamed up to develop a second filmization of Matilda.
By 2022 Matilda the Musical had been released – and fans have loved it ever since.
What is the hoax Matilda 2 movie The Trunch?
The Trunch was alleged to be an upcoming sequel to the original Matilda movie but was proved to be a hoax.
The fake poster claimed that villainous Miss Trunchball’s childhood would be explored in the new movie.
But there is no evidence that a Matilda sequel was in the works in 2024.
The post went viral on social media, accumulating tens of thousands of reactions.
Some users saw the rumor as factual and said that they “can’t wait” for the sadly fake sequel.
The caption on the post reads: “From the whimsical world of Matilda comes The Trunch, an exciting new origin story narrated by Danny DeVito.
“Meet ten-year-old Agatha Trunchbull (played by newcomer Amelia Davis), a girl destined to become the fearsome headmistress we all love to hate.
“Set in 1964, young Trunchbull is sent to a strict boarding school, where her fierce personality and love for discipline begin to take shape.
“Amidst midnight escapades, unruly classmates, and the tough-as-nails staff, Agatha starts to wield her iron will, setting the stage for her future reign at Crunchem Hall.
“Full of fun, thrills, and unexpected laughs, The Trunch offers a delightful peek into the early life of one of the most iconic characters in children’s literature.
“Coming to Prime Video in November 2024!”
However, a closer look at the Facebook page reveals that all the posts are completely false.
YODA BBY ABY states: “I’m just here to eat frogs, lift rocks and be satirical.
“The page is 100% satire and fake news.”
So sadly, it is very unlikely a sequel will come anytime soon.
