After a very busy fortnight with the Paris Olympics and a quiet week after, action is picking up again. There’s also the build-up to the Paralympic Games, which begins in just four days.


What’s on today?

  • Chess: World Championship challenger D Gukesh and Praggnanandhaa are in action at the Sinquefield Cup tournament in Saint Louis.

  • Wrestling: Fallout from the case against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

  • Table Tennis: India’s domestic league- Ultimate Table Tennis – continues in Chennai.

What happened yesterday?

  • Athletics: Neeraj Chopra finished second at Lausanne Diamond League with a sensational last throw which was his season best, but fell just short of 90m.

  • Football: Mohun Bagan needed penalties (6-5) to see off Punjab FC after the game ended at 3-3 in regulation time. Bengaluru FC setup a mouth-watering semifinal clash with their Kolkata rivals after a 95th-minute winner against Kerala Blasters (1-0) in the quarterfinal.

  • Wrestling: Kajal (69kg) added to India’s gold tally at the U-17 World Wrestling Championship, with Indian winning the team gold as well (5G, 1S, 2B) to stand atop the podium.

  • Tennis: Sumit Nagal to face Griekspoor in US Open first round

  • Chess: World Championship challenger D Gukesh drew again with compatriot R Praggnanandhaa, in the Sinquefield Cup – the final leg of the Grand Chess Tour.
