Ideas Of New Team? Jeremy Swayman Shares Candid Remark

Jeremy Swayman never wants to leave the Bruins, and a new contract ensured he’ll wear a Boston uniform for years to come.

But the negotiations for the new deal were pretty dragged out, which allowed the goaltender’s mind to drift to undesired places.

Speaking with the media after finalizing an eight-year, $66 million contract with the Bruins, Swayman was asked if he ever had doubts about receiving a new deal from Boston and thus playing for a new team.

“Through the process, there are a lot of demons that can creep in your head, you know? There’s a lot of unknown,” Swayman told reporters, as seen on NESN. “Again, what I knew is my heart was gonna be in Boston and I was gonna do everything I could — and my team was gonna do everything we could — to stay a Bruin for my whole career. That’s gonna continue. The light was at the end of the tunnel and we knew we had tools and reasons to stay here. And again, management thought the same thing. It was a really special point when we finally reached an agreement and we’re both in the same boat of wanting to win Stanley Cups.”

Negotiations can be challenging, and both Swayman and general manager Don Sweeney acknowledge the road to the goalie’s deal wasn’t smoothly paved. But all parties involved ended up signing on the dotted line, which means they can focus on working together to hang more banners at TD Garden.
