EVEN the best beauty bargain hunters out there are probably missing out on an amazing shopping deal.
I’m The U.S. Sun’s Lifestyle Editor and I only just discovered it myself — but lucky for you, I don’t gatekeep.
Beauty subscription boxes used to be all the rage, but even in Birchbox’s heyday — the website briefly shut down and stopped shipping orders earlier this year — it was $10 per month.
Now back online, it costs $20 per box.
But it turns out there’s a cheaper option out there — though you’ll only get boxes quarterly, instead of monthly.
Walmart’s Beauty Box costs just $6.98 per box plus tax, and you get a new carton of goodies every three months.
With such a low price — really, it costs about as much as my Starbucks order — I’d have expected a bunch of those dinky sample packets you used to get in magazines.
But when I saw women showing off their hauls on TikTok, I was intrigued.
Rather than single-use lipstick foils or those teeny, tiny serums that last less than a week, these boxes seemed to be filled with actual travel-size bottles.
OK, I was convinced: a few clicks and my first box was on its way.
WHAT’S IN THE BOX
When you first sign up, you need to fill out a questionnaire.
Walmart has a few product options to include each quarter, and they tailor boxes based on what you express interest in.
My first box to arrive was for summer 2024 and had a spot-on seasonal product: Megababe Thigh Rescue.
A full-size anti-chafing stick from the brand is 2.1 ounces for $13.97, but my box came with a pretty generous .81-ounce tube.
Hot tip for people whose shoes always seem to rub: These chafing sticks also prevent blisters on your heels and toes.
Next up was a shampoo and conditioner set from Hairitage by Mindy McKnight.
Full-size versions of those are 13 ounces and cost $8.94 a pop; I got 2-ounce bottles to test out.
There was also a face cleanser from Thayers (full size retails for $14.97) and to scratch my makeup-loving itch, I got a .18-ounce brow gel from CoverGirl.
The CoverGirl item was the biggest score — it was full size and usually sells for $9.98 at Walmart.
According to the insert, other people got Bondi Sands self-tanner, Physician’s Formula liquid bronzer, an Eva NYC hair mask, and The Shop’s face wash.
The priciest sample was L’Oreal’s Revitalift hyaluronic acid serum, a full-size bottle of which goes for $25.97.
BRING ON THE NEXT GOODIES
I’m genuinely pleased with what showed up in my mailbox, even if it’s just to have a few travel-size items to pack for my next vacation.
And of course, for under $7, even if I was thoroughly unimpressed with everything in there, it’s no major loss.
I’ve also managed to convince our deputy lifestyle editor to subscribe too, so I’m already feeling like an influencer.
