Husband Replaces Kitchen Towels After Laundry, or so He Thought

The feeling of accomplishment after completing a load of laundry is special—but one man didn’t get to revel for long.

A video on TikTok posted by Courtney (@courtney_lb) has gone viral by revealing what she found after her husband did the laundry: a pillowcase draped over the oven instead of a fresh kitchen towel. Since the clip was posted on August 4, it has received 6.4 million views and over 600,000 likes.

“POV: Your husband did the laundry and replaced the ‘hand towels,'” Courtney captioned the video. “This is a pillowcase.”

“It actually works better here, anyway,” she added.

The hilarity of the realization struck a chord of familiarity with viewers, who had their own stories to share about the sometimes-unfortunate intersection of men and household chores.

“I remember once when my dad set the table with a fitted bed sheet,” @vicki.parker wrote.

“I remember my dad once tried to boil some meat without water,” @silviazou7 wrote. “On top of that he insisted that that’s ‘the right way to do it,’ so yeah, your husband is doing pretty good!”

Some had more specific instances of laundry-gone-wrong to share: “I washed my special dress in a dress bag and asked him to hang it on the line,” @loucwebee wrote. “He did, but left it screwed up in the bag and hung that on the line.”

“At least it’s still white. My hubby washes black jeans with white socks. Everything is gray,” @kitkit9415 wrote.

“My husband wanted to help me and he wash bath towels together with kitchen towels and all the food was transferred on bathroom towels,” @getuta_colectie_istorie wrote. “I was beyond disgusted.”

Not everyone took to the video lightly, though. Some viewers criticized Courtney’s husband for presumably not being able to make this basic distinction—and she took note.

In a follow up video responding to a comment that read, “It’s embarrassing more than funny. What a moron,” Courtney edited together clips of her partner being a loving husband and father. In one, he makes pizza with their daughter. In another, he does yardwork while their daughter plays with their dog.

The video was welcomed by those who saw the humor in the kitchen towel situation. Despite those who claimed the switch-up was an act of “weaponized incompetence”—a behavior in which a person feigns an inability to do something, so that others pick up the work—plenty of others begged to differ.

“Weaponized incompetence is a serious issue with a lot of men, but that towel situation wasn’t one of those situations. What a truly absurd thing to say,” @_janetssnakehole wrote. “Enjoy your beautiful family babe!”
