Western Conference counterparts battle it out on Monday night as the Golden State Warriors travel south to face the Los Angeles Clippers.

After a disappointing 2023-24 season, Golden State has gotten off to a torrid start this campaign, sitting second in the West as of Sunday with a 10-2 record behind the illustrious play of two-time league MVP Stephen Curry. Curry is averaging 22.7 points this season to go with 5.1 rebounds and 6.4 assists, as well as 2.0 steals nightly, on 43.2 percent shooting from three. The 36-year-old looks in line to earn yet another All-NBA distinction for his contributions this campaign as long as he stays healthy.

It’s Golden State’s depth that has set it apart this season, however, even despite the loss of star 2-guard Klay Thompson. The Warriors have five players averaging double-digit points, and that’s not including Draymond Green, one of the most impactful defenders and playmakers in the league, who is putting up 9.1 points, 5.5 rebounds, 5.3 assists, 1.1 steals, and 1.0 blocks per contest this year.
The Clippers, meanwhile, have battled all year long, boasting a 6-7 record despite not having the services of Kawhi Leonard thus far this season. Leading the way in the scoring department for Los Angeles has been former UCLA standout Norman Powell, who is averaging 23.6 points on 48.0 percent shooting from three. James Harden has also played very well this year thus far, putting up 20.7 points, 8.0 rebounds, 8.3 assists and 1.5 steals. It’s just clear the team needs Leonard if it is going to make a run in the West, as the team is too lacking in scoring outside of Powell and Harden to put up the number of points needed to compete at a high level in the modern NBA.
