Hotel Employees Share Horror Stories

“One of the worst incidents was during my first week after training. A groom had emailed our team and asked us to go into his fiancé’s room and get her wedding dress so we could steam it before their wedding the following day. We ensured we had received permission to enter the room, and our staff, though very uncomfortable, retrieved the dress.”

“As soon as my coworker found the dress, she noticed that there were rips and dirty spots on it — which she immediately photographed as soon as she opened the dress bag (the time stamps lined up right, so there was no way she could’ve destroyed it). The bride came down SCREAMING at our staff and accusing us of trying to steal her dress and then destroying it, making it ‘unwearable’ (it was a few tiny rips and smudge spots that, again, we didn’t do). She was running around the lobby, threatening to get violent and telling us that her rich daddy would have the hotel closed down and all of us fired.

Her belief was that we stole her dress, wrecked it for fun, steamed it, and then put it back in the room. How does any of that make sense, you ask? No clue. Our manager calmly asked her to step around the desk and read the email from the groom telling us she had specifically requested we steam her dress. Despite the proof from his direct email address, she accused us of lying. When the groom came down, our manager pointed out that he’d asked us to do it, but he pled ignorance. The day after the wedding, her father came down to check out, berated our staff for ‘upsetting his daughter before her wedding,’ and asked for discounts. We said no. Genuinely unhinged behavior.”
