HELLOFRESH has apologized to a shopper after selling out of a popular new Thanksgiving offering.
The delectable meal from the grocery delivery e-service was inspired by Friends and appealed to its diehard fanbase nationwide.
Previously available exclusively online through HelloFresh’s website, Rachel Green’s Trifle Kit, inspired by the iconic television series, was just $34.99 and promised to feed at least six people.
The Trifle Kit was created as a direct result of the Thanksgiving episode during season six in celebration of the show’s 30th anniversary.
Included in the two-in-one sweet and savory kit were all the ingredients needed to make the trifle half, which has mixed berry preserves, pudding, and whipped cream, along with the shepherd’s pie half with ground beef, mashed potatoes, thyme, and white cheddar.
There were also instructions on how to perfectly create both halves and a special glass dish with a built-in divider to keep the shepherd’s pie and English trifle separate.
While HelloFresh is a subscription service, all consumers could get Rachel Green’s Trifle Kit while supplies lasted from November 4 through 7.
HelloFresh also noted it would re-stock the Thanksgiving deal each day within the allocated period at 9 am ET.
ORDERING GLITCH?
Unsurprisingly, the Friends-inspired offering sold out every day, and one shopper who narrowly missed out felt they were cheated out of the limited-time Trifle Kit.
They claimed to have had the item in their cart and were in the middle of purchasing it when they were notified it was no longer available.
“When I tell you how annoyed I am. I had this in my cart and was checking out, but it sold out while in my cart?” the shopper, Stephanie, questioned in a post to X.
“Literally why do companies still do this and not have carts on hold while checking out.”
“Absolute. Trash,” she fumed.
HelloFresh was quick to apologize for the incident and explained to Stephanie that she’d have another chance during the re-stock.
“We apologize for any inconvenience caused,” the company replied.
“Rest assured, the Trifle Kits will be restocked tomorrow at 9 am ET!”

NOT AMUSED
Still, Stephanie wasn’t convinced and demanded further action be taken.
“And rest assured that they will sell out again [while] it’s in the cart and you’re trying to check out,” the customer snapped.
“Get out of here with the copy paste response and actually LISTEN to your customers.”
While it’s unclear if any additional action was taken by HelloFresh, several retail giants have also released their Thanksgiving meal deals.
FORMIDABLE FEAST
Walmart’s offering serves eight people for just over $50 and comes with 29 ingredients, including a 10 to 16-pound Whole Frozen Turkey.
Target’s is significantly cheaper at about $20 with a turkey and six sides, but it only feeds about four.
Still, doubling up on it would even be less than Walmart’s basket.
Aldi’s offer is arguably the best bang for shoppers’ buck.
It feeds 10 people for $47 and comes with all the necessary ingredients for mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole, pumpkin pie, and more.
