The overwhelming feeling from fans around the world is that the end is coming faster than a Bullet Train for tennis legend Rafael Nadal.
A month after pulling out of his planned return to tennis at the Qatar Open, Nadal has again failed to get up for his next scheduled tournament.
On the eve of his first match at the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells, Nadal took to social media to tell fans that his body had let him down again.

“It is with great sadness that I have to withdraw from this amazing tournament at Indian Wells,” he wrote.
“Everyone knows how much I love this place and how much I love to play here. That’s also one of the reasons why I came very early to the desert to practice and try to get ready.
“I have been working hard and practicing and you all know I took a test this weekend but I don’t find myself ready to play at the highest level at such an important event.
“It is not an easy decision, it’s a tough one as a matter of fact, but I can’t lie to myself and lie to the thousands of fans. I will miss you all and I am sure the tournament will be a great success.”
Since 2022, Nadal has only managed 12 official matches.
The 37-year-old played in three matches at the Brisbane International in early January — his first competitive action in nearly a full year — but then pulled out of the Australian Open.
After Nadal’s latest announcement, fans were devastated.
“This is Rafa’s last year. He is ready to retire. My heart breaks, but I am happy that he gets to spend time with his adorable son, and his wife, Maria,” one fan wrote on social media.
Another said: “This is probably the end of a great career! Sad but true, we have seen this before in the last few days of Roger’s career.”
While another added: “You have to listen to your body and let it heal completely so that you can continue to do all the things in life that are more important than the game of tennis. Rest up, reevaluate, and know we’re grateful for what you have done for the sport thus far. It’s enough, you are among the GOAT’s.”
And another: “I am so sorry Rafa with such a difficult decision I sincerely hope you recover quickly and fully so you can be back on court doing what you love and we love watching. Until then, take care and see you when you’re ready. Sending my unconditional support always and big hug.”
Tournament director Tommy Haas also shared his disappointment at the news.
“We are disappointed that Rafa is unable to play in the BNP Paribas Open, but we wish him continued healing and hope he can be back in action again soon,” Haas said.
“He is one of the all-time fan favorites here, and we hope to see him back in Indian Wells again in the future.”
